There is one person who has been a constant in your life from the moment you were born until the moment you will die...yourself! You are the person that you spend the most time with. The relationship that you cultivate with yourself will be reflected within all the other relationships in your life!
What does a relationship with yourself look like? Typically when we think of being in relationship, there are two separate beings relating to one another. How can I be in relationship with myself? Who is the self that I am in relationship with? These are some of the questions I have been pondering.
What I realize is that even though I appear to be a solid "me", even that is an illusion. I am made up of relationships. My body is not solid, it is a relationship. The thoughts that I hold in mind affect the emotions that I experience. The emotions that I experience affect the health and well being of my body. Science is revealing that life restrictive emotions like fear, anger, and worry inhibit our body's first line of defense, the S-IgA response for up to 5 hours after feeling the emotion. On the other hand, the S-IgA response is enhanced for up to 6 hours when I experience life affirmative emotions like love, caring and compassion.
The Institute of HeartMath conducts scientific studies on the intelligence of the heart. We can center in heart intelligence and allow love to be our guide. We begin by being open to loving ourselves enough to transform our relationship with Self into a relationship of love, forgiveness and peace.
On Sunday, we were blessed with Grace's sharing of her personal relationship with self and how that has transformed over the past 18 months. Her story is a reminder that we all have the opportunity to be made new in every moment as we look within, become aware of self, and make choices from self-awareness.
